VELERIAN – Centranthus rubra Albus – 2 litre pot
Centranthus is often called Velerian and can be seen everywhere, on the coast growing wild or in a garden border. I love its natural growth as a very familiar plant and if you take the time to consider the interesting blue/green leaves it really is quite lovely. In a seaside garden it looks like it has always been there and will self seed and wonder at will. If in a garden border, it can take on another personality as not being the star of the show, but more like a very worthy “supporting actor ” not adding huge drama but a quiet elegance especially being white. Its a real toughie and does not need a great deal of care and attention, which is part of its charm having an ability to thrive in some difficult spots of dryness with perhaps a poorer soil, but is substantial enough to make a good display with a height of around 60cm, it forms a really decent clump.
We hope it will self seed all over the stable yard and through our planting here and will post pictures to show it progress,
