Lamium Orvala- Balm Leaf Deadnettle 2 litre pot

This lovely member of the dead nettle/Lamiacea family is rarely grow in the UK now.  It is extremely closely related to the common red nettle we have here in the borders and on the edge of pasture grass here at Enchanted Gardens.

This is the same plant that our rare Shrill Carder Queens and Brown Banded Carder Queens immediately feed on when they emerge from their winter hibernation.  But it is a valuable food source for all pollinators.

It is much taller than the wildflower Archangel at an incredible 60cm, it is Non-stinging, and non-invasive ground cover plant,

The stems are finely hairy and the inside of the petal lips are decorated with reddish-brown markings which are said to “guide” the insects to the nectar.

This is a true Woodland herbaceous perennial forming a very attractive clump of Nettle like leaf with large spikes of very dramatic whorled pink/purple flowers through May, June and July.  It does grow exceptionally well in shade but can tolerate sun if watered.  In your garden this is a showy plant feeding pollinators with a natural/wild flair!
