Knautia Arvensis – Field Scabious – 5 litre pot – very Large!

This is our native Field Scabious  which used to be commonly found in our grass meadows.  A “Pin Cushion” flower is an old fashioned name for this group of plants. A lovely long-blooming perennial for any garden, forming a huge mound of tall, beautifully serrated green leaves, which in themselves are very pretty.

Field scabious are a part of a romantic view of the countryside from our past before pasture and grasslands began to decline, this lovely plant moves and sways in the summer wind and provides “airy drama” and movement.

Tall and branching, wiry stems bear hundreds of small, pale mauve flowers throughout the early summer and into the Autumn, growing to around 120cm billowing out of the pasture grasses and absolutely covered with hungry pollinators.  Best provide support early in the year so that they can “grow through” and then look completely natural in a garden border.

If the plants have drainage in winter they will live for many years.
