Phlomis Purpurea (3 litres)
Sorry about the picture – there just aren’t any to be had, but we did want you to see the colour – the leaf is very different, being furry, and grey/green.
This beautiful plant has caused us some concern -While phlomis fruticosa (yellow) and phlomis tuberosa (pale purple) have very similar leaves but different colour flowers this variety is actually a woody shrub. We have incredibly grown from seed and it has taken around 2 years. This small and very desirable evergreen shrub is from sunny, stony spots in Spain and Portugal. It has very distinctive sage like leathery, wrinkled, downy, grey-green leaves, and flowers large pale purple/pink flowers. 4ft (1.2m) They are not widely grown (we cant find any) so, if you do have hot dry poor soil why not give them a go?…..
