Macleaya Microcarpa

We grow this giant from root cuttings and not seed. Also known as the PlumePoppy, a very architectural perennial not for the faint hearted or the small garden. You must keep an eye on it as it loves to wander around a little but well worth having for its leaves alone which are huge blue/grey and intricately cut, and also as waterproof as the annual poppys leaves which is always a pleasure to see. We have noted that similar to Asclepias they so tend to have a “lie in” causing concern that they are not coming back aster winter – but they always pop up again a little late and no apology. In late summer they flower vast sprays of feathery plumes of tiny pinkish flowers, which are pollinated by the wind, by this time they can grow to over 10 feet so be careful…
